Our history
We were joined by a passion for polo. The German Silke and her
husband Marcos Antín Güiraldes met during a tournament at the Real
Club de Polo in Barcelona (Spain). At that time Marcos, nephew of
the famous writer Ricardo Güiraldes, author of the book."Don Segundo
Sombra", I was driving in Buenos Aires “Los Pingüinos Polo Club”,
One of the most prestigious polo clubs in Argentina and was visiting
Spain as a professional player. In 2002 looking for their
"ideal" place to live in Argentina, they toured
San Antonio de Areco, the place where Marcos lived. His dream was to
set up a polo club and a petit hotel to welcome Marcos'
patrons and so many other people who are passionate about sports or
lovers of the outdoors. With luck they discovered La Sofía, a
perfect stay. Still living in Barcelona, they started with the
project and the constructions, they had two children and then they
moved to La Sofía. At five years the dream was already a reality;
your home in the peace of the countryside, a wonderful boutique
hotel, the two polo fields and personalized quality service, with
the attention of the owners so that their guests have an
unforgettable stay.
Currently, La Sofía has been transformed into an active polo club registered in the Asociación Argentina de Polo, with its approved regulatory courses. Marcos is the Head Manager of the club, teaches polo, is present in dressage and horse breeding, and every so often plays some official cups in Argentina and abroad. Marcos and Silke always play together at La Sofía and Silke, for their part, plays women's polo and AAP tournaments with their La Sofía team. It was La Sofía who won the 1st official women's tournament organized and supported by the AAP in 2010 (First Women's Tournament for the 2010 Handicap Aperture Cup).
In November of each year the Cup of Tradition takes place in the ranch, as part of the festivities of the Tradition of San Antonio de Areco.
Marcos and Silke, together with their children, have been able to unite their passion for polo with their family life and happily share and dedicate this magnificent place with their guests.
